Tzimmes with Meat

1 pound box of prunes
3 cups boiling water
2 tablespoons chicken fat or margarine
2 to 4 pounds brisket cut in 2-inch cubes
2 onions, diced
1 1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
4 medium sweet potatoes, peeled and quartered
1/2 cup honey
2 cloves
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

Soak prunes in boiling water for 1/2 hour. In a heavy iron pot or Dutch oven, brown beef and onions in chicken fat. Add salt and pepper, cover and cook over low heat for 1 hour. Add undrained prunes, sweet potatoes, honey, cloves, and cinnamon. Cover and cook over low heat for 2 hours. Serves 6 to 8. Note: If doubling recipe it is not necessary to double amount of prunes.
