Chapters and Councils

Since JWI’s first chapter -- Unity-San Francisco #0001 -- was founded in 1909, we’ve grown to a proud network of more than 100 active chapters throughout the United States. Each represents JWI with an unflagging commitment to explore women’s unlimited potential and educate its members and community about JWI’s important work.

Watch what happens when chapters get involved!

Philanthropy

JWI chapters raised over a half million dollars in 2006, fulfilling critical needs for funding and programs in the U.S. and Israel. Chapters...

  • Support JWI’s Residential Treatment Center in Israel through fundraising luncheons, fashion shows, cook-offs, social gatherings and other events.
  • Rally synagogues and sisterhoods around JWI’s Mother’s Day Flower Project.
  • Provide funding for children’s libraries created by the JWI National Library Initiative in domestic violence shelters across the country.
  • Organize community giving circles that support JWI’s Women’s Economic Security Fund.

Programming

Chapters...

  • Arrange for speakers to discuss issues affecting women and children with chapter members and community groups.
  • Engage local community members in JWI’s anti-violence work.
  • Employ JWI’s “When the Vow Breaks” community awareness toolkit.
  • Encourage teen and young adult programming using JWI’s new curriculum on Healthy Relationships.
  • Meet domestic violence shelter residents and staff, and provide ongoing volunteer support.

Community

Chapters...

  • Work with community leaders to advocate in Washington and in your local community for the protection of domestic violence victims.
  • Bring community activists, domestic violence survivors, clergy and educators to JWI’s next international conference on domestic abuse in the Jewish community.
  • Invite local businesses and individuals to subscribe to Jewish Woman magazine, giving women an entry point into the community as well as timely and practical resources that reflect their lives.
  • Plan social events including travel, book clubs, and other activities.
