JWI Director of Programs Deborah Rosenbloom recently traveled to Australia as part of a federal grant to Jewish Care, a social service agency in Sydney. The grant included funding to build public awareness and provide training on domestic violence. Over a three-week period, Deborah conducted training within several sectors of the Sydney Jewish community, including Orthodox rabbis and rebbetzins, progressive rabbis, educators, youth leaders, and community groups. She also held violence prevention workshops in each of the Jewish high schools in Sydney and travelled to Melbourne to conduct workshops and meet with the local domestic violence task force. By the end of Deborah’s time in Australia, JWI had educated and trained more than 700 people, dramatically increasing awareness of domestic violence issues in the community.
