Media's Mixed Messages to Our Daughters

JWI’s Brain Power for Girl Power Think Tanks have gathered women - including Women to Watch Award honorees and JWI leadership - for important and fruitful discussions about issues affecting Jewish girls. This year the project continues to build dialogue and programming initiatives with a Think Tank scheduled for December 6th in Washington, DC. Women to Watch moderator Mayim Balik will speak to attendees in advance of the gala event the next day.

The 2009 Think Tank, Navigating the Teenage Years: The Impact of Media and Culture, chaired by JWI Board of Trustees member and Modern Jewish Mom Meredith Jacobs, promises to be one of the most productive events yet. After presentations on the representation of girls in the media, participants will discuss how these images influence our daughters, and strategize ways to broaden education on this important issue. The goal is to innovate and implement empowering new strategies – programs that will mitigate the effects of harmful media messages on girls, during their formative years and beyond.
