  • FEMX Quarters 1919 San Diego Avenue San Diego, CA, 92110 (map)

Treat yourself to a self-care series that prioritizes your health and your financial future! JWI’s 4-part Financial Fitness series gathers San Diego-area women in their 20s and 30s to build your financial confidence, boost your well-being, AND connect you with new friends. This cohort is for those just starting out on their financial planning journeys and people who want to explore more of their personal relationship with money. Over the four sessions we’ll explore budgets, salary negotiations, and our own emotions towards money. No prior financial or Jewish knowledge is required.

Our 1.0 cohort will meet in-person from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. PT on Mondays - April 11th, May 16th, June 13th, and July 11th. Each session will include a financial literacy workshop - friendly, interactive, and facilitated by experts and a social/snack session at the end. Registration is free!

In keeping with JWI’s commitment to serving the greater good, vaccines will be required. This program is built for women and non-binary people who identify as Jewish, but people of every religious affiliation, race, culture, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ability are welcome.

Session 1: How We Feel About Money - Monday, April 11th

We’ll start the series with a session about the many complex emotions around money. Learn about JWI’s finance philosophy (managing your money is integral to self-care, and everyone should have money in their own name), then break into groups to discuss your personal journey and relationship with money. Everyone will have a chance to talk about their hopes, their fears, and their vision for their financial future. You should come with a detailed list of everything you bought that week, to get you started on the budget you’ll be building in subsequent sessions.

Session 2: Budgets & Debts - Monday, May 16th

Session two will review everything you spent money on the previous week, and get you started on a budget that sets you up for success. We’ll discuss the why and how of budgeting before starting to build one tailored to your income and lifestyle. Also on the agenda this session: Understanding and managing the different types of debt, protecting your credit score, and planning for future expenses like travel or buying a home.

Session 3: Conversations & Negotiations - Monday, June 13th

This week’s goal is to make sure you understand your worth! We’ll cover the uncomfortable but critical money conversations that must be had - from negotiating a salary that reflects your worth, to setting financial goals and expectations with your partner, to telling a friend her bachelorette weekend doesn’t fit into your budget. Particular attention will go to your value in the workplace: Understanding pay and benefits, and how to negotiate a package that reflects the value you bring.

Session 4: Your Financial Future - Monday, July 11th

In the final session, we’ll take a look at the power you’ve gained by exploring and understanding your individual finances. Looking back at what you’ve learned, you’ll be able to assess the goals you set in session one, and how attainable they feel with all of this empowering new knowledge in hand. It should be clear to see the ripple effect of the financial decisions you make today; you may notice lifestyle changes that will put you in better alignment with your goals. You’ll come away from this session with a vision and a plan for a bright financial future.

Facilitator

Catalina Traylor

After spending about 3 years as a financial advisor and a year as a loan processor, I decided to obtain my MLO license to help friends and family in Washington, California, and Arizona find the right home loan for them. Because of this experience, I have highly detailed knowledge of the loan process and can help borrowers have the best experience possible through full transparency. I have collaborated with and learned from each department to provide the very best outcome for each borrower, as both a processor and loan officer. I pride myself on being an educational resource first and foremost, so my meetings will always center around making sure you understand where your loan is, and how to navigate home-ownership.
