321ACTION: Support individuals in accessing abortion services

Celebrate historic gun violence prevention legislation, support abortion access, learn more about Title IX

Your civic action to-do list for June 27, 2022.

Support Abortion Access

On Friday, the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, turning the clock back 50 years, and in one fell swoop stripping away the bodily autonomy and reproductive freedom of millions of women. This decision will not impact all pregnant people equally – low-income women, women who live in rural communities, women in abusive relationships, black and brown people, and the LGBTQ+ community will be the hardest hit.

Tomorrow, June 28th at 1:30 PM ET, join NCJW for a briefing on the decision and the state of abortion access in the U.S.

Support people seeking abortions by donating to NCJW’s “Jewish Fund for Abortion Access” which will fund: an abortion access hotline, travel across state lines for an abortion, and abortion fees.

Learn more about medication abortion, an accessible, effective and safe method by watching JWI and Plan C’s “Plan C/Abortion Pill 101 Training” (visit Plan C Pills for current information).

Celebrate the Passage of Gun Violence Prevention Legislation

In an incredible moment of unity, Congress passed the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act on Friday and it was signed into law by President Biden on Saturday. This bill includes noteworthy measures to bolster prevention resources, community violence intervention programs, background checks, “red flag” laws, and gun trafficking legislation. It also includes partial closure of the “boyfriend loophole,” an issue that JWI has spent decades advocating for and will continue to advocate for until it is fully closed.

Thank your members of Congress to recognize their commitment to addressing the gun violence epidemic and encourage them to continue bipartisan efforts to keep our communities safe.

Learn about Title IX

The Department of Education released new Title IX regulations last week on the 50th anniversary of its original enactment. The new regulations reverse the "2020 Rule" enacted under the Trump administration and guarantee that all student survivors have their civil rights restored. They additionally provide additional protections for pregnant students and the LGBTQ+ community.

JWI and Keshet will host a discussion on the components of the new regulations and how they will affect college campuses. Date and time are TBA, but please sign up to receive an invitation as soon as details are announced.
