3. Congress must prioritize the needs of domestic violence and sexual assault survivors in the next COVID relief package – the programs that serve them are depending on it!

In a nutshell: COVID-19 has both increased both the incidence of interpersonal violence and the complexity of serving survivors. Dedicated funding for sexual assault services and culturally-specific organizations are necessary to ensure the safety of survivors.

Take action: Join JWI for a Twitter storm on Thursday (7/16) at 2:00 pm EST to call on Congress to invest more resources for survivors.

2. Overturning asylum laws to make it nearly impossible for those fleeing violence to seek safety in the U.S. goes against the very core of our nation.

In a nutshell: The Trump administration’s proposed changes to asylum law would: 1) eliminate asylum for people fleeing domestic or sexual violence; 2) deny asylum to people who stopped in other countries as they fled violence; and 3) deny asylum seekers due process by eliminating their right to a hearing in front of a judge.

Take action:  Submit a comment to the Departments of Justice and Homeland Security to reject these proposed changes. If relevant, make sure to include your own family’s immigration story. The deadline to submit a comment is Wednesday at midnight EST!

1. Last week, the Supreme Court voted to undermine access to birth control by upholding the administration’s outrageous rules that limit the right to this preventative care under the guise of religious freedom. Key congressional lawmakers immediately leapt into action.

In a nutshell: The Protect Access to Birth Control Act will repeal the administration's extreme regulations and safeguard contraceptive coverage from employers', colleges', and insurers' so-called "moral" and religious objections.

Take action: Urge your representative and senators to support the Protect Access to Birth Control Act today!
