Tell Congress: We need real action on gun safety!

Thank you for standing up to end gun violence!

We are making an impact: After last month’s sit-in by Members of Congress and an outcry by voters like you, Speaker of the House Paul Ryan is feeling the pressure and has agreed to allow the House of Representatives to vote on a "terror gap" measure. However, the bill being voted on is inadequate and not a meaningful response to our country’s gun violence epidemic. We must demand more.

Speak out TODAY and tell Congress to take decisive steps on gun violence prevention bills that will actually make a difference. Find your representative here or call the Capitol Switchboard at (202) 224-3121. Contact Speaker Ryan at (202) 225-0600 and via email.

Tomorrow, Speaker Ryan will bring up a weak “terror gap” bill that fails to address our national gun violence crisis. The bill has already failed in the Senate, and would require the Department of Justice to go to court to provide probable cause of involvement with terrorism before barring a person on the terror watch list from buying a gun. This ineffectual bill is not what the American people asked for, and it’s not what our country needs. Let’s show Congress that we are serious about ending gun violence, and we won’t give up!

Call Speaker Ryan and your Member of Congress to demand a vote on legislation that will save lives: Expand background checks and ensure that domestic abusers cannot legally access guns. JWI supports H.R. 3411, the Fix Gun Checks Act, for expanded background checks, and H.R. 3130, the Zero Tolerance for Domestic Abusers Act, to close the boyfriend loophole.

Speak out today for a safer tomorrow.

Sample phone and email script: “My name is ____, and I’m calling/writing to ask Representative _____ to vote NO on H.R. 5611, the inadequate terror gap bill, and support strong and effective background checks and closing the boyfriend loophole. Congress needs to vote on and pass H.R. 3411 and H.R. 3130 to address the gun violence epidemic and protect domestic violence survivors.” Feel free to add your personal story or a personal note.
