Tuesday, August 25, 1:30 p.m. ET

Disarming Abusive Partners: Firearms, Intimate Partner Violence, and Survivor Safety

Webinar Overview

Armed abusive intimate partners pose a danger to their victims, to their communities, and to themselves. Most women murdered by men in the United States are killed by their intimate partners, and most intimate partner homicides are committed using firearms. However, homicide victims represent only a small percentage of people who are harmed by armed intimate partners.

At the end of this webinar, attendees will:

  • Recognize how abusive intimate partners use firearms to harm their victims and their communities

  • Be familiar with federal laws to disarm abusive intimate partners and the role of states

  • Distinguish between court orders that can be used to disarm abusive intimate partners

  • Help survivors safety plan around firearms

  • Identify best practices to disarm individuals convicted of qualifying crimes or subject to qualifying court orders
