Help Stop Guns from Getting Back into Abusers’ Hands
Join Jewish Women International (JWI) and the Battered Women’s Justice Project’s (BWJP) National Center on Gun Violence in Relationships on June 10 from 2:00 - 2:30 Eastern Time for a brief conversation about rule making by the Department of Justice that could re-arm some adjudicated domestic abusers currently prohibited by federal law from having firearms.
Rachel Graber, JWI’s Vice President of Government Relations and Advocacy, and Jennifer Becker, Director of the National Center on Gun Violence in Relationships at BWJP, will discuss the Department of Justice’s interim final rule to restart considering applications for federal firearm restoration. They will discuss the comment the two organizations submitted to encourage DOJ to adopt a process to adequately assess the ongoing danger an adjudicated domestic abuser may pose to their victim or their community when considering whether to restore their firearms and will help attendees submit their own comments using a template incorporating the main themes of the JWI/BWJP comment.
