A New Year: Resilience in the Face of Gun Violence

Tuesday, September 20, 2022, 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. ET

As we enter a new Jewish year and our children enter a new school year, many of us fear for our own safety as well as the safety of our family and community. The epidemic of gun violence has impacted us all, but it is up to each of us to decide how to respond. Hear from Ivy Schamis, a former teacher and survivor of the mass shooting at Marjorie Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, FL, about her experience and her perspective on facing each new day.

Ivy Schamis is a teacher who survived the tragedy on Feb. 14, 2018 at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla. She was teaching a Holocaust class when a gunman opening fire killing 17 people, two of whom were in her classroom. She currently serves as the office manager at Milton Gottesman Jewish Day School in Washington, D.C.
