FAQs

What is JWI?

Jewish Women International (JWI) is the leading Jewish organization working to empower women and girls by ensuring and protecting their physical safety and economic security, promoting and celebrating inter-generational leadership, and inspiring civic participation and community engagement.

Inspired by our legacy of progressive women’s leadership and guided by our Jewish values, JWI works to ensure that all women and girls thrive in healthy relationships, control their financial futures and realize the full potential of their personal strength. JWI works on college campuses to bring prevention programming to this at-risk population; we advocate for policies that support women and girls on Capitol Hill; and we work with domestic violence shelters to bring supportive resources to women and children.

What is the Young Women’s Leadership Network?

JWI’s Network, funded in part by the Sondra D. Bender Community Leadership Institute, brings together Jewish professional women in their 20s and 30s to grow as leaders in their workplaces, their communities and their personal lives. The Network connects members in Chicago, D.C., Denver, Los Angeles, New York City, and now San Francisco to inspiring role models from a diversity of fields. Our young women are inspired to be great by doing good, participating in social action events and meeting with philanthropists.

Most of all, we're building a community. At the heart of the Network is a group of amazing young women becoming their best selves with a network of friends.

What does Network membership involve?

Basic membership ($36/year) entitles you to discounts on Network events throughout the year, including access to special members-only events, networking happy hours, meet and greets with authors, entrepreneurs and other inspiring women, the annual Young Women's Leadership Conference in Washington, D.C., and more. The tax-deductible cost of your membership supports the mission and work of JWI.

Sustainer membership ($180/year, or $15/month) includes basic membership discounts, plus three free events and a “See Us Lead” gold Mantraband bracelet. This membership level supports JWI’s life-saving and life-affirming work, including our sexual assault prevention programs in high schools and college campuses and our project to build new libraries for children in battered women’s shelters around the country. The cost is tax-deductible.

What kinds of events can I expect?

Every city is a little different! In L.A., favorite events have included everything from hiking to baking challah with Holocaust survivors. In Chicago, one of last year’s favorite events was body-positive yoga class followed by a conversation on self-care. Every year, Denver decorates pumpkins for children in their local Children’s Hospital. D.C.’s Women In Policy events last year brought Jewish women on the Hill together for the first time. In NYC, one of last year’s memorable events was crowding 30 women into an NYC apartment to eat latkes and celebrate Hanukkah together. Our events aim to provide tangible resources, like with programming on financial security, inspiration in the form of incredible women leaders, and of course, an opportunity to connect and have fun, with happy hour and discounted group fitness classes.
