80% of clothing donation ends up in a landfill. The JWI YWIN of Chicago wants to bring the opportunity to sustainably donate your spring cleaning, learn more about sustainability in apparel, meet other great women in the network IN PERSON, and have some yummy brunch bites.
Attendees will be able to bring all of their spring cleaning/give away to the event venue. We will all be able to display our clothing and can walk around the other displays to see if there is any clothing you want to take home to add to your collection. Whatever garments remain at the end of the event will be sustainably donated to various charities that we KNOW will use the clothing so we can avoid them ending up in a landfill.
Our speaker, Susan Freeman, who has worked in the sustainability department of Eileen Fisher will share her insights on how to shop sustainably and how to effectively donate clothing in the future.
There will be some breakfast refreshments for people to enjoy while "shopping" and mingling. While this is structured as an open house (people can come and go as they would like) our speaker will be presenting briefly (15 minutes) more toward the beginning of the event.
Since the event is in Deerfield, we'll be arranging carpooling for anyone who's interested.
Susan Freeman is a Chicago-based Consultant at EY-Parthenon in their Value Creation group, with a focus on Consumer Product & Retail cost optimization, operational diligence, and supply chain. She holds an MBA from the Cornell Johnson College of Business, as well as a bachelor degree in Fiber Science & Apparel Design from Cornell University. Prior to earning her MBA, Susan worked as a buyer at Eileen Fisher in New York City. In her role as a buyer, she supported the US & International Retail Store businesses and helped launch the Eileen Fisher Renew line of recycled and upcycled EF garments across retail, wholesale and e-commerce channels.
