321ACTION: Show your support for closing the "boyfriend loophole" to save lives!

Your civic action to-do list for June 20, 2022.

Yesterday was the second federally recognized Juneteenth. This day, also known as Freedom Day, commemorates when, in 1865, enslaved people in Galveston, Texas were finally told that they were free from institutionalized slavery, an additional two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed. Juneteenth encourages us individually, and as a nation, to address our own internalized biases and systemic racism as we look to build a more equitable future. Internally, JWI has been on an ongoing journey towards racial equity and looks forward to continuing to learn, listen, and grow. We encourage you to join us in this commitment and identify areas for growth in your own anti-racism journey.

Take Action on Abortion Access

The Supreme Court decision, which is expected to overturn Roe v. Wade, is anticipated to come down within the next two weeks.

We must be prepared to mobilize quickly to demonstrate that the vast majority of the American population supports reproductive choice. Visit wewontgoback.com to stay informed about rallies taking place near you. Watch JWI and Plan C’s recorded training on the abortion pill so that you are aware of the options post-Roe and can support your peers in making informed decisions (information changes quickly so visit www.plancpills.org for the most up-to-date information).

Defend LGBTQ+ Communities

The attempted riot at a Pride event by a white nationalist hate group in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho is demonstrative of the discrimination and danger that our LGBTQ+ family members and peers face every day.

The very least we can do is enact legislation such as the Equality Act that will prohibit discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity in employment and other key areas. Contact your senators and tell them to pass this legislation now.

What’s happening at JWI?

Did you forget to wish someone a Happy Father's Day?

If you forgot to send Father's Day cards to honor the amazing men in your life yesterday, we're giving you one last chance! Choose a card to send to the men in your life who models kindness, respect, and equity. Every e-card you send through JWI – one for every $25 donation – supports our ongoing work to engage men as allies and build a world where all women can live safely and thrive.
