321ACTION: Protect our lives, data, bodily autonomy!

1. Ban Assault Weapons

Research (and common sense) shows that a ban on assault weapons can prevent and reduce shooting fatalities and injuries, and yet since 2004 – when a 10-year ban on assault rifles expired – Congress has yet to pass legislation to do just that.

The House of Representatives is only a few votes shy of being able to pass HR 1808, the Assault Weapons Ban. Check to see if your representative is a co-sponsor, and if they aren’t, ask them to join 212 of their colleagues as a co-sponsor.

2. Protect User Data

In the wake of Dobbs, and states moving to ban abortion access, it is more important than ever that tech companies protect personal data that could be used to prosecute individuals who search for abortion services or go to healthcare clinics.

The Tech Transparency Project’s investigation shows a loophole in Google’s technology that allows someone who has access to a victim's phone to log into their own Google account and download the location history of the victim without their awareness or consent. This gap has the potential to expose highly sensitive information to abusive partners or parents.

3. Protect Access to Reproductive Autonomy, Domestically & Globally

Access to reproductive healthcare and abortion access is under attack in the U.S. and around the world. We must continue to call on our elected leaders to support our reproductive autonomy.

This week the Abortion is Healthcare Everywhere Act will be introduced in the Senate to repeal the Helms Amendment and allow for foreign aid to be spent on abortion services. This funding could reduce the number of unsafe abortions by more than half and save the lives of 17,000 women each year.

Last week the House of Representatives passed the Right to Contraception Act that protects a woman’s right to access a full range of contraceptive options. Now the Senate must pass it.
