321ACTION: GOTV in Kansas, the Senate at work, and asylum protections

Your civic action to-do list for August 1, 2022.

Get Out the Vote (in Kansas)

For the first time since the Supreme Court overturned Roe, abortion access is on the ballot.

Tomorrow, Kansans will vote on whether to remove the state’s constitutional right to abortion – setting up an opportunity for the legislature to ban abortion (just as neighboring Texas, Oklahoma, and Missouri have done).

Sign up for a Jewish community kickoff call and phone bank training tomorrow at 10:45 am ET to get out the vote in Kansas!

Contact Senators Before They Go Home

This is the Senate's final week of work for the summer - members of Congress don't come back to D.C. until September.

Last week, on a razor thin margin, the House passed The Assault Weapons Ban of 2022 (H.R. 1808).

Now is the time to tell your senators to support this measure and stop the proliferation of assault weapons and high capacity magazines!

Protect Asylum

Seeking asylum is a legal human right that must be protected, and yet since the start of the pandemic, approximately 900,000 people – including 215,000 parents and children – have been denied the ability to request asylum.

Under the guise of public health, a pandemic era policy named Title 42 was enacted that paused nearly all asylum proceedings at the border. And now, some politicians are trying to make this policy permanent -- adding it into must-pass appropriation bills in the House and Senate. We cannot let that happen!
