321ACTION: Vote, Reduce Inflation, Protect Civil Rights

Ready to make a difference?

Here are three ways to get started:

1. Vote Now (in primaries)

Primary elections are happening now! 38 states have already held their primaries, but tomorrow voters in CT, MH, VT, and WI go to polls.

Given that many state legislative and congressional districts are dominated by a single party (strong Republican or Democrat majorities), primary elections are often determinative. Now is the time to have your voice heard, or it may be too late!

Find out if you live in one of the 14 states with upcoming primary elections and make a plan to vote!

2. Help Pass the Inflation Reduction Act

Over the weekend the Senate passed the Inflation Reduction Act, a bill that will make healthcare coverage and prescription drugs more affordable, address the global climate crises, and create a fairer tax system.

While this reconciliation package doesn’t include many of the important provisions we have been pushing for in a reconciliation bill – including paid family leave, universal pre-k, and the childcare tax credit – it will help families afford prescriptions and pay for health insurance while also reducing the cost of energy.

The House of Representatives is due to vote on the bill later this week. Tweet and tell your representative to support this important measure!

3. Protect Civil Rights

Recently, two proposals were released through the formal rulemaking process – one that would help protect students from sex-based harassment and sex discrimination through Title IX and one that would improve access to healthcare for LGBTQ+ people through the nondiscrimination provision in the Affordable Care Act.

Learn more about these protections from our colleagues at the National Women’s Law Center and the Human Rights Campaign and look out for a template comment on Title IX that JWI and Keshet are drafting!
