Join leading scholars David S. Cohen and Carole Joffe as they discuss their new book, Obstacle Course: The Everyday Struggle to Get an Abortion in America. During this discussion the authors will tell the story of abortion in America, capturing a disturbing reality of insurmountable barriers people face when trying to exercise their legal rights to medical services. Professor Joffe will also address the challenges facing abortion providers and patients during the COVID-19 pandemic and Professor Cohen will discuss the forthcoming Supreme Court decisions that will have great consequences for abortion and birth control access in this country.

SPEAKERS

David S. Cohen is a professor of law at Drexel University Thomas R. Kline School of Law, where he teaches constitutional law, reproductive rights, and gender and the law. Prior to teaching, Cohen was a staff attorney at the Women's Law Project. He is currently on the board of the Women's Law Project and the Abortion Care Network. His previous book is Living in the Crosshairs: The Untold Stories of Anti-Abortion Terrorism.

Carole Joffe is a professor in the Advancing New Standards in Reproductive Health (ANSIRH) program in the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences at the University of California, San Francisco. She is also a professor emerita of sociology at the University of California, Davis. She has written several other books on abortion.
